I am a very avid underwater swimmer...something I have practiced for years actually..I have never researched any sort of records because we never see any events for underwater swimming....

I just found this article, they had underwater swimming way back in the 1900 Olympics....pretty wild....I can easily swim 60 meters underwater!

I will now walk like an Olympic Gold medalist every time i walk into the community pool...

UNDERWATER SWIMMING

At the second modern Olympic Games contested in Paris in 1900, the most unusual event to be held was underwater swimming.

It was decided prior to the competition that two points would be awarded for each metre swum underwater. In addition, one point was added to the scoring of each individual for every second he stayed below the surface.

Much to the delight of the locals, Frenchman Charles de Venderville won the event swimming 60 metres and staying submerged for 1min 8.4sec.

Denmark's Peder Lykkeberg stayed underwater for a longer period, one and a half minutes, but only managed to travel 28.5 metres.

This was the first and only time underwater swimming was held at the Olympic Games

Take a look at the guy who lasted the longest under the water, he traveled less than half the distance!

My eight yr old kid can swim farther underwater (28.5 meters) than that,lol... thats only 90 ft!

What was he doing underwater for 1:30 and traveling just 28.5 meters?

Dude the pool that i have here has 12 feet and when i got to the bottom my ears start poping and they hurt like a bitch. 28m is not a joke.

I'm an idiot lol. Ok i can swim underwater across the whole pool here and its like 20 meters but it's a struggle.

and for that matter those people that go way down deep into the ocean to set depth records are freaking nuts!
